Netherlands-based offshore transport and installation contractor Jumbo Offshore has been awarded a contract by fellow Dutch dredging and offshore specialist Van Oord to transport and install transition pieces for the 476-MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind project in Germany.
Jumbo Offshore will start work on the project this month. The scope of the task covers the transportation and installation of transition pieces from the marshalling yard to the offshore wind farm site in the German Baltic Sea.
Brian Boutkan, manager commerce at Jumbo Offshore, noted in an announcement on Monday that the company has so far transported and installed over 400 transition pieces with its DP2 heavy lift vessels.
The wind farm is being developed by Spanish utility Iberdrola SA. Van Oord recently completed the installation of the facility’s 50 monopiles and proceeded with the installation of the transition pieces.
The Baltic Eagle wind farm is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2024. Earlier in 2023, Iberdrola agreed to sell a 49% stake in the project to Masdar.
