A 135-MW wind farm in Texas has been commissioned to supply US specialty chemicals company Dupont de Nemours Inc (NYSE:DD), the latter said on Thursday.
The Appaloosa Run Wind Energy Centre is located in the state’s Upton County and is expected to generate around 528,000 MWh of electricity per year, or enough to supply almost 70,000 homes. DuPont has committed to buying the entire output under a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) signed in September 2021 with a unit of NextEra Energy Resources LLC, the project’s owner.
The contracted power volumes will help DuPont’s meet its objective to cut absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 30% by 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
The Appaloosa Run project was initiated by Dallas-based renewable energy developer Tri Global Energy. The company sold the project in May 2021.
