Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) and Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES) announced on Monday that they have awarded a USD-200-million-plus (EUR 182m) job, their single largest New York offshore wind industry supply chain contract, in relation to the 924-MW Sunrise Wind project.
More specifically, the pair has contracted Long Island-based Haugland Energy Group LLC, an affiliate of Haugland Group LLC, to install the underground duct bank system for the offshore wind park’s onshore transmission line in Brookhaven, Suffolk County.
This contract alone will create more than 400 jobs for union workers in New York, including heavy equipment operators, electricians, and lineworkers, the announcement says.
Onshore construction work is scheduled to begin later in 2023 and the wind farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025.
The Sunrise Wind facility is planned to be built about 30 miles east of Montauk. In 2018, the project was selected as part of NYSERDA’s inaugural competitive offshore wind solicitation. Once up and running, the wind park will be able to produce enough electricity to meet the annual demand of almost 600,000 homes.
