India’s Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has received a letter of award (LOA) for the development of a 200-MW hybrid renewables project, after winning the multi-technology scheme through competitive bidding.
TPREL said on Tuesday it has secured the LOA from Indian utility SJVN Limited for a so-called Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) project. FDREs are designed to provide round-the-clock power supply and to support distribution companies in meeting their renewable purchase obligations and energy storage obligations.
According to TPREL, its 200-MW project has been carefully sized to form a hybrid mix of solar, wind and battery storage to meet the FDRE requirements.
The project represents TPREL’s first win in a FDRE tender. The tender also includes a greenshoe option, allowing for additional capacity beyond the initial 200 MW, the renewables company said.
The hybrid facility is expected to be commissioned within 24 months from the signing of the power purchase agreement (PPA).
